5 Desk Habits That Wreck Your Posture (and How to Fix Them)

If you spend most of your day at a desk, there's a good chance your posture is quietly working against you. Here are the most common culprits, and simple ways to fix each one.

1. Slouching into your keyboard

Leaning forward toward your screen rounds your upper back and strains your neck. Try moving your monitor to eye level and consciously sitting back into your chair instead of hunching forward.

2. Crossing your legs for hours at a time

It feels natural, but it tilts your pelvis and puts uneven pressure on your lower back. Keeping both feet flat on the floor keeps your spine more neutral over a full workday.

3. Rounded shoulders from typing

Constant typing pulls your shoulders forward over time. A posture corrector worn for a few hours a day can retrain your shoulders to sit back naturally, even when you're not wearing it.

4. Sitting for hours without moving

Staying in one position, even a good one, tightens muscles and stiffens joints. Standing up and stretching for two minutes every hour makes a real difference by the end of the day.

5. A chair that doesn't support your lower back

If your lower back isn't supported, your body compensates by slouching. A rolled towel or lumbar cushion behind your lower back can fix this without buying new furniture.

Small changes add up

You don't need to overhaul your whole setup at once. Fixing even one or two of these habits, consistently, tends to reduce the tension headaches and lower back pain that build up from a desk job.
